The Colomba d’Oro, the home of Ennio Morricone by the Verona Arena

The Colomba d’Oro, the home of Ennio Morricone by the Verona Arena

«At the Arena di Verona I get excited every time. There’s a moment in which I particularly feel the audience, close to me, all around me: I don’t stop, but I feel a very strong lump in my throat. Then it goes, it’s just a very intense moment».
With these words Ennio Morricone, the greatest author of film music, told his love story with Verona and its Arena.

For 17 years, starting from his first performance in the Arena on September 2002, and until the last one in May 2019 for his farewell tour, the Maestro always stayed here, in one of the luxury rooms of the Colomba d’Oro, fully enjoying the privacy, comfort and feeling of home that only a historic 4-star hotel like this can offer.

The well-being that one feels at the Albergo Colomba d’Oro, the four-star hotel closest to the Verona Arena, made him a faithful guest of this four-star hotel in the historic center of Verona, a location strategically close to the Arena, easily reachable on foot from this hotel with private parking in Verona. He was regularly accompanied by a staff made up of family members and a few trusted professionals, he always asked for his favorite room, one of the “Superior” ones, our upscale accommodation, featuring a separate sitting space for entertainment and relaxation and a small balcony directly overlooking the streets of the historic center of Verona: returning there made him feel at home and guaranteed him the confidentiality he held dear. The experience of the staff of this 4-star hotel in Verona with an ancient history and full of charm guaranteed him all the attention and kindness that we reserve for each of our guests. With the addition of a small special treat that we always remember with a smile: the request, granted, to have an espresso coffee machine directly in the room.

Although the Colomba d’ Oro has a bike rental service, the Maestro preferred to spend his days in the quiet and silence of his room, rather than visiting the historic center of Verona and its surroundings. This made his presence in the city of Love and Music even more magical: you didn’t meet him on the streets of the city and his confidentiality even led him not to speak on stage during the show, but his arrival was awaited every time with affection from the staff of the Hotel Colomba d’Oro.

After his death on 6 July 2020, the Arena di Verona was the scene of very sincere tributes to the Maestro and his art: the first to pay homage to him, on 5 June 2021 as soon as the doors of the Arena di Verona  reopened after the shutdown imposed by the outbreak of the pandemic, was the vocal trio of Il Volo, with an event broadcast all over the world.

This year Maestro Morricone’s masterpieces will be performed again on Monday 8 May at the Filarmonico Theatre, which is also very close to the Colomba d’Oro. The musical tribute, by the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra directed by Giacomo Loprieno, will be a unique and all-encompassing experience in which Morricone’s famous arias will be accompanied by accurate storytelling, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of his famous cinema scores.

Reserve yuor room at the Colomba d’Oro, and treat yourself to the opportunity to live in the rooms that have left a mark in the hearts of those who wrote the history of music and cinema.
