Christmas lights in Verona!

In November and December, you can breathe a magical atmosphere between the bends of the Adige River, enjoying scents reminiscent of the German ones of Nuremberg, as well as colors and sounds that announce the arrival of Christmas.

Verona turns into one of the capital cities of the most joyful religious holidays: the entrance to the Unesco heritage old city and its streets are illuminated by hundreds of warm lights and decorated trees, Piazza Bra becomes the home of the giant Comet Star coming out from the Roman Arena, and Piazza dei Signori, also known as Piazza Dante, hosts for the 12th year ina  row, from Friday 12 November to Sunday 26 December, the characteristic wooden houses of the Christmas Markets, in collaboration with the “Christkindlmarkt” of Nuremberg .  which for the first time also occupy the Cortile Mercato Vecchio and Cortile del Tribunale.

For the first time, the Christmas market also extends to the two ancient adjacent courtyards, the Cortile Mercato Vecchio and Cortile del Tribunale. Here, between the carousel of the “tree of happiness” and the glittering house of Santa Claus, about a hundred exhibitors offer typical food, crafts and local products.

But the main new feature in this 2021 edition is the large ice rink which, for the very first time, is set up in the pool in front of the former Austrian Arsenal, a stone’s throw from Castelvecchio, surrounded and illuminated by a further offshoot of the markets. Here you can experience the magic of skating in one of the most evocative places in the city.

To comply with all the health safety regulations and social distancing, to access the three main squares that host the Christmas houses, counters are installed, to limit the attendance, which must be less than 1,200 people, each with the “Green Pass “.

The opening hours of the Christmas Markets are: Sunday to Thursday from 10 AM to 9.30 PM; on Fridays, Saturdays, and any day preceding a public holiday, from 10 AM to 11 PM. Friday 24th December closing time is at 5 pm, Saturday 25th December (Christmas day) is at 4 pm, and on 26th December it is at 6 pm.
