Verona Arena Opera Festival 2027: discover the nights of great opera near the Colomba d’Oro

Time flies when it comes to opera in the Verona Arena, a few steps from the Colomba d’Oro. While the wait the 2026 is almost here, attention is already turned toward a 2027 that promises to redefine the very identity of the opera festival. On the night before Easter 2026, the dates for the 104th Verona Arena Opera Festival were revealed. Scheduled for June 11 to September 11, 2027.

2027: A year of celebrations returns near the Colomba d’Oro

2027 will be a revolutionary journey through the history of music and dance in the Verona Arena: after more than 30 years, the great ballet returns to the spotlight near the Colomba d’Oro. Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet will bring it back to the place where, symbolically, everything makes sense: Verona, Shakespeare’s city par excellence. It is a contemporary reinterpretation of a stage language capable of engaging with the monumental space of the amphitheater.

The Festival will open on June 11, 2027, with a monumental event: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. On the occasion of the bicentenary of the Bonn genius’s death, this great opening will place Verona at the center of the 2027 global Beethoven celebrations.

Verdi at the Verona Arena in 2027

In 2027 the heart of the Arena Opera Festival is once again Italian opera, with Giuseppe Verdi as its cornerstone. Aida will be performed with:

  • Gianfranco de Bosio’s historic production, inspired by the very first one from 1913; and
  • the most recent version, the contemporary “crystal” version directed by Stefano Poda.

Also on stage will be La Traviata, with Paul Curran’s new production set at the Moulin Rouge, which promises to enchant with its elegance and dramatic depth, and Nabucco, as directed by Stefano Poda.
And alongside Verdi, there will also be Georges Bizet’s Carmen, in Franco Zeffirelli’s historic and beloved production.

Gala performances at the Verona Arena in 2027

Ballet will also take center stage outside of Prokofiev’s title with the tho special nights of Roberto Bolle & Friends, on July 8 and 21, 2027.

Furthermore, 2027 at the Verona Arena marks the return of one of the most recognizable and beloved voices on the global scene: Jonas Kaufmann, who over the years has developed a special bond with the the Colomba d’Oro loyal guests.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana also has a strong impact, finding an almost natural dimension at the Verona Arena.

And finally, the immersive concerts created with Balich Wonder Studio point to a clear direction: that of a Festival that engages with technology and new audiences. On the one hand, the return of Viva Vivaldi, a spectacular tribute to Antonio Vivaldi; on the other, Paganini Paradise, a project that pushes the boundaries between concert and visual performance even further.
